Storms

So I've been asked to design a back and front cover for a band called A Week of Summer for their new record called Storms.
The only theme they gave me was that it needed to have artwork relating to the weather.

I'm pretty much finished with it now and am waiting for them to get back to be for it to get feedback and such.

I'll post up the final revision next week :)
Awesome.

Quotes

So much for finding a tattoo'd brain surgeon.
I did however find an old gentleman who was in the Navy for fourteen years which was really exciting to hear all his stories at sea and how many awesome countries he got to see on his travels.

First up is a little idea, relating to all the places/countries he'd seen.
Most of the countries he visited the flags were mostly red, so i looked at other colours in the flags and mixed them. For example Afganistan has Red and Green when mixed that makes Brown.

New brief set by Why Not Associates.

So two days ago we got set our new brief by Why Not Associates of London to create an A1 poster of two colours on White.

Our task is to go and talk to people we've never met and don't have anything in common with them their questions and answers will then make for content for the A1 posters. and also a publication..

I've been thinking a few times of what the goal of this brief is. I like people, and I like to hear their stories. I like the idea of seeing someone covered in tattoos and learning that they're a brain surgeon. I want other people to know that people aren't what we see, they're people - with different backgrounds, and problems, and families, and ideas - no matter what lives we make up for them. Understanding this may help others to be more respectful of their peers, and may encourage more thought and conversation. That is my goal - thought and conversation.

i'm a little nervous as well as excited about talking to randoms.

now to find a tattoo'd brain surgeon...

Stickers.

stickers.
to represent different genres.

Black & dollar symbol - Hip hop
Red, white & blue - Mod
Yellow face - Rave/Electro
Black & white (dogtooth) - Ska/Two tone.

these would go up along the way to a venue, such as if you were going to the 100 club on Oxford street, stickers would be stuck to lamp posts/trees/bus stops from the station at Tottenham Court all along Oxford street.
Inside the venue would be the posters (which i will put up tomorrow) to explain the stickers that the people would see on the walk to the venue.

holla!

Post-what?

So the third and final year is here and i'm attempting to get stuck into this new D&AD brief.
Directing people to the Fred Perry subculture website.
messing around with post-it notes...
relating to leaving a small clue, then once put back together creating a bigger picture. Like Viral advertising.
Although this is far from finished i've got two and a half weeks as i'm stupidly off to Chicago and florida for just under 2 weeks which i booked up while i was still out there in the summer. idiot.
Luckily enough the deadline is a week after i get home.
back to work i suppose!

Sprayart.

so yesterday i got a call to quickly re-design an advertising board for a local company called Sprayart which do crash repairs, and spraying.
it's not overly amazing, i don't usually like doing this style of work (or using Helvetica Neue). But i couldn't resist seeing something massive and in the enviroment for the next 5/6 years (or how ever long the company lasts for!) following what the client wanted was high visibility, people to notice it and for it to be easily read whilst driving. I think it ticks all three boxes.

here's what i come up with and is getting printed as we speak, it's gonna be MASSIVE!
keep an eye out for them on Stock Road, Southend.

Select a series of objects that follow you from place to place. Analyze these - do they relate? is it you or is it them? Post these to yourself.

my objects, as i based this project on travelling over the summer, was my backpack and my suitcase.

and instead of having images of the above on a postcard i looked at what relates these to me and among other things was me holding each object. so that's where the hands came from.
