Christmas is coming
I'd like to say this is my first piece of Christmas work at work, but it isn't. It feels like its christmas because of all the Christmassy work i've had to do!
This is my favourite thus far..
This is my favourite thus far..
Its November already?
a day after my placement at Musto finished, I started at my first real job as a junior designer/artworker at Encompass and i'm lucky enough to say i'm still here, its been nearly 4 months!
I've worked on such an array of work in the last few months, from car livery, brochures, CGI's, posters, flyers, banners, exhibition signage, business cards, stationary, the list goes on!
Some stills of a showroom I made in 3D, not too terrible for my first bash..

It's been a while..
..since i've last blogged, since last time I have completed a placement here
Which was really really insightful, learnt a lot of a small time (well two months) I worked on various bits from swing tags, keyrings, wobblers, 6ft event banners, flyers etc..
I also figured that uni didn't really prepare me for the world of work too well, what was the point in giving us briefs that lasted two/three months? in the real world you have to get it all done within a couple of days at the most, I mean, don't get me wrong having to work to really tight deadlines does make you produce awesome work within a small period but I thought the point of going to university was to prepare you for the real world... how wrong I was.

Positive Posters Submission
This is my submission for the 2010 Positive posters brief.
The brief is as follows;
which you can find here
"I haven’t failed; I’ve had 10,000 ideas that didn’t work – Benjamin Franklin
We think Mr. Franklin had a nice way of looking at things. So the 2010 competition theme is ‘A Glass Half Full’. For those who don’t know, this saying refers to optimism. Some people see situations with optimism (Franklin – glass half full), and some see situations with pessimism (glass half empty).
We would like you to design a positive poster in response to this theme. Judges will be looking for original concepts, lateral thinking and inspired designs. The poster will be up in Melbourne streets, so keep in mind it should also standout against the city landscape"
I'm a fairly pessimistic person so I wanted to produce something that might make me take a second and re-think my situation (or problem/whatever that may be) therefore turning a 'new leaf'.
I took the negative saying 'the grass is always greener' and turned it into a positive meaning.
If you're having a shitty day and your feeling burnt out, take a second to think then turn over a new leaf to enjoy a more positive side of life. (deep, right?)

Just a quiet evening
Not quite sure what i'm gonna do with these as of yet.
But they look pretty interesting, when i get some time at the weekend i'm gonna have more of a play around.

I've been rather busy...
.. I've recently started interning at Musto and it's been full on 9 to 5 every day of the week. Not used to the early starts and being occupied all day but i'm really enjoying it.
I realised I didn't take ANY pictures of New Designers last week. Which is a bummer would of liked to get some photos of the boxes.
Whilst we're on the topic of New Designers. it was a blast!
Lots of free Bombay Sapphire cocktails which was awesome! Took full advantage with those bad boys.
'Networked' a little got talking to the nice guys from Macworld and a Graduate from last year who was telling me about how he found graduating/finding work and such.
Time for bed, up at 6am!

Clear
Today I went to pick up the perspex for the front off my boxes.
I'm really pleased with the overall look, it's just setting up the scenes now ready for New Designers in a couple of weeks!
The last in the Graduate shows.

D&AD New Blood (Friday 25th June)
Yesterday I went along to man the stand at D&AD's New Blood exhibition.
Minus the temperature in there (felt like a million degrees!) it was a really exciting evening.
We had a ton of interest in our stand and a lot of industry people visited.

Even At Our Worst We're Still Better Than Most.
Yesterday we took down the show at South Essex College/Uni of Essex.
Today has been a bit of a headache with planning for D&AD's new blood show in a couple of weeks time, work to edit slightly, portfolios to update etc.
But amongst the headache came an email to say that my tutor had put me forward for D&AD's portfolio surgery on 25th.
So I have a lot to look forward to/keep busy with at the moment.
More photos from the book.
Photos by Anna Knight. (cheers!)
